If you've gone through the process of getting recon then the odds are you have at least one horror story tell.

The inspection covers just about everything: engine, suspension, body, etc. The "pass" or "fail" requirements are determined by the DMV. If your bumper height is too high or too low, you fail. If your tires stick just a tad out of the fender, you fail. In a lot of cases, the tolerences to pass or fail can be a fraction of an inch. For example, if you have a body lift for your truck, the body lift cannot exceed 3" in total. That means if your truck has bushings or spacers between the body and frame, you cannot install a 3" body lift because the bushings plus the 3" lift will exceed the total distance between the body and frame. Everybody knows that the most popular size body lift to use is 3", but you can't use it if you want to pass recon.

I think the most frustrating thing for me is the inconsistency from inspector to inspector. I once had a Toyota 4x4 with 35" tires. The tires were sticking outside the fender so I added two fender flares to each corner. One flare that attached to the fender, then another one that extended 2 more inches. Using the two flares covered the tires really nicely. I called recon just to make sure that what I was doing was going to pass. They said yes, it should. I went down and waited in a very long line to get my truck inspected. I didn't pass. The inspector at that time said that because the flare curved in toward the fender at the bottom, it exposes the tire thread. To me, that was such a technicality to fail me on, plus the other inspector had told me that it was ok.

So i had 30 days to fix the problem and get inspected...again. Well, in that time my alignment papers expired so I had to get another alignment. Fix the flares and go down to recon and try it again. This time I got another inspector and he spoke to me about the flares because this time I had a triple flare set up just to be absolutely sure I was going to pass. He told me that third flare was not necessary. WTF!!!!!

TIPS FOR A SUCCESSFUL RECON EXPERIENCE

1. Make sure you have all the basic paperwork: safety check, registration, insurance, alignment papers (if you changed your wheels).

2. Call them ahead of time and describe what kind of mods you've done. Ask what could potentially pass or fail. Make sure you get a name of the person you talked to (this is important). Even if you have gone through recon before, you never know what kind of changes to the laws they've made. Also, if you have any tips you can share as well.

Toyota Recall!!

Ok so what do u think about the Recall that TOYOTA has made with their product line.

Will this recall damage the Rep of the company?

Do u think they can recover from this Media up Roar?

How do u think the owners of these car that have been Recall Feel after everything is said and done?

Would U still Buy A TOYOTA?

Who in the Company should be blamed for this Error?

Could these Owner that have the Vehicles File a Law action Suite Againist te Company?

just some of the question I was thinking about!!

Yaris Aimed At Women

Here's a Yaris that Toyota has called "Hard Kandy".
